Pre-Performance Carillon Concert at 7:30 p.m.
Concert at 8:00 p.m.

H. Michie Akin, Conductor

Cathedral Guadalupe
2215 Ross Avenue in the Dallas Arts District

On the nigh of All Hallow’s Eve, let us send shivers down your spine and uplift your soul as the Arts District Chorale melds the macabre of Hallowe‘en and the ethereality of All Souls, exploring the light and dark sides of nature — both human and environmental. We’ll sing of love lost and life gained through death, aspects of nature both eerie and frightening, and supernatural beings.

Rich with authentic Gothic themes in a historic Gothic-era cathedral, this concert explores the haunting acoustics of the turn-of-the century High Victorian Gothic Cathedral Guadalupe. The performance includes readings from authors as diverse as St. John of the Cross, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Allen Poe with music from Heinrich Schütz, Samuel Barber, Johann Sebastian Bach, Gyorgy Orban, Hugo Distler, John Taverner, and others.

The performance is preceded by a 7:30 p.m. carillon concert featuring the Cathedral’s 52-bell Dutch carillon — the largest instrument of its kind in the city of Dallas. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

For tickets or more information about the concert, e-mail info@artsdistrictchorale.org or call us at (214) 942-5085.

“Sunlight”

Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

H. Michie Akin, Conductor

Dallas Museum of Art
1717 North Harwood Street in the Dallas Arts District

The Chorale concludes its Season of Light in collaboration with the Dallas Museum of Art for a panel discussion and concert celebrating
the creative expression of light in visual and musical works of art.

This event coincides with the DMA’s exhibition of works by
“proto-impressionist” J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), who late in his
career experimented with the depiction of light, prefiguring one of
the most exciting aspects of the Impressionist movement by some
40 years.

A panel of visual artists, art historians, musicians, and musicologists will discuss both the similarities composers and painters share in
trying to “depict” light and the unique challenges each art form faces.

For more information about the concert, e-mail info@artsdistrictchorale.org or call us at (214) 942-5085.
