Music of Genius and Obsession
In 1855, Johannes Brahms wrote to Clara Schumann, "I can do nothing but think of
you...." It was a messy situation, doomed to become still messier. At the time,
Clara was 35, Brahms 21. She was already married — wholly and passionately — to
Robert Schumann. But after Robert died, Johannes flew to Clara's side and never
truly left. Their love — filled with regret, talent and obsession — continued until
their deaths. The Arts District Chorale attempts to unlock this mysterious
tangle of love and genius through musical performances and a reading of the
lovers' letters — a compelling event not to be missed.
