ADC AND ARTSVISION 2025: A TWELVE-YEAR COLLABORATION
For the 12th year, the Arts District Chorale teamed up with ArtsVision Performing and Visual Arts for its two-week Summer Theater Camp. This year’s camp centered on the production of the wildly popular musical, The Lion King, Jr. The camp and theater production were held in July at East Dallas Christian Church, directed by Fran Anderson, Artistic and Managing Director for ArtsVision. ADC’s Artistic Director Blair King returned for a second year as Music Director.
Each year, ADC singers volunteer as vocal coaches to assist students from elementary through high school as they assume and rehearse their roles for the musical. This summer, ADC soprano Nicole Silva worked with students on proper vocal production, while ADC altos Elizabeth Smith-Rosenbloom and Anne Thomas helped students polish lyrics and rhythms.
“The ArtsVision performances are always very special,” says Smith-Rosenbloom. “Blair does such a great job bringing out the best in the kids. I was privileged to work with the soloists and to also work with the choir for their warm-ups. It takes a musical village!”
Says King, “Our special relationship with ArtsVision continues as we help it meet its mission as “a nonprofit fine arts program which offers an innovative program that focuses on the arts for youth, helping them build self-esteem, confidence, and inspiring their creative voices.”
Can You Feel the Love Tonight sings the character Timone. “Yes!” says ADC Board President Thomas. The students love the whole ArtsVision experience. It’s both fun and educational.”
From casting, to curtain call, the joint venture is filled with grit, determination and teamwork.
