ADC APPLAUDS CARNEGIE EXPERIENCE

A group of 17 ADC singers hit the stage and streets of New York City in June 2025. They were there to participate as part of the Masterwork Festival Chorus for a pinnacle musical experience at the renowned Carnegie Hall.  Six chorales performed under the direction of Eliza Rubenstein, conductor extraordinaire from Orange Coast College in California.  Performing with the chorus was the New York City Chamber Orchestra. The event was coordinated by Manhattan Concert Productions.

The chosen work was Mozart’s Requiem, K. 626, long a universally beloved work of many singers.  For three days, the chorales rehearsed the work.  Rubenstein’s approach included such exercises as pairing singers on the floor seated back-to-back, instructing them to feel one another’s breathing. She also asked singers to get in touch with their personal emotions by asking, “Who are we singing for today?”

When not rehearsing, the singers enjoyed other musical experiences, including a night of jazz at Birdland and numerous Broadway musicals selected a la carte.  Others made excursions to the many sights of NYC, including the Frick Museum, Ellen’s Diner, and Central Park. Some singers brought family members and friends. All enjoyed the rich tapestry of experiences offered by The Big Apple.

This marks the second time an ADC ensemble has performed at Carnegie, the first being in April 2024.  For many, it was a bucket list experience … a dream come true. “Singing with ADC at Carnegie Hall was a very special moment,” said alto Jeanetta Norris. “Being in such a beautiful, historical, legendary space while singing some of the greatest music ever created, and with amazing people, is an experience that will forever resonate with me.”
